titus

david's sister had her 6th baby last month. 6th!!!! she's pretty amazing when it comes to pushing out those babies. i was privileged to watch her last birth and it was so beautiful. she likes to go au-natural with no epidural and her strength was awe-inspiring.
so this quilt is for newborn TITUS. it's so similar to this one, but i just couldn't help but replicate it.
it's so precious to me.

quilting with my machine hasn't worked so well in the past, but the 3rd time is a charm, right? i quilted straight lines using this method and pretty much loved it. i still like a more meandering quilted look, but straight lines have their place too. plus, it saved me like 50 bucks.

i'm still here.
AND
she's still in there.
seriously, any second now.

meanwhile, nana flew into town and is spoiling us all rotten.
shopping, walking, eating, playing, napping, bliss:)

and finally, my final project while waiting this little misses arrival:

my 360 view

after dropping the boy off at preschool, i brought my girl home and we sewed.
with counting crows on pandora and a bottle of water, i got to work.
half way through, i looked over at her and about died of pure joy---
she was eating goldfishes, and swaying in her rocking chair to the music and hum of my sewing machine. she was completely content by my side as i worked.
at one point she even walked up to me, tapped my leg, looked into my eyes, and said
"happy, mommy."

this girl time was priceless and made me "happy" as well.

here's my 360 view of the scene:

a sassy look for the camera; she warms up later:)

yes, that's my bra on the bed.
who sews with the confinement of a bra?

the bassinet ready to go for baby #3

back to the computer.
(i keep a trash bag to my left when i sew, to throw cut off threads as i go.)

can you tell i'm 9 months pregnant? holy fatness!

here's her swaying...

and dancing...

and clapping...

goldfishy smile

the end.

circles

did you know that i have a huge fear of sewing anything other than a straight line?
it's true.
so i'm tackling my fears head on.
i decided to follow this tutorial from cluck cluck sew
{i think she might be my
favorite blogger quilter} for paisley's quilt.
so here's my start at it. some of my favorite fabric combo's before i cut them into quarters:

i really have no theme of colors or patterns here, i just went for saturated colors.
crossing my fingers it plays out well.
wish me luck!

grandmas and fabrics

while in omaha,
we visited grandma van
who just lost her husband last month after 30 some years of marriage.
we miss you grandpa van!
we took her to red lobster- a grandma tradition,
and she gave the boy a ride on her sassy purple walker.
during lunch, i grilled her on her childhood, her life, her parents' lives, etc...
they were both immigrants from poland.

afterwards, we headed to a local quilt shop that aunt shadda recommended.
i loved looking around with my momma and grandma. they are both so creative and i hope equally enjoyed the fabric eye candy.
here's what i came home with:
(i might have splurged)

this halloween fabric was too cute to pass up.
i'm planning just a small quilt for the kids to cuddle up with.
yes, that's my belly in the shot.

some more yummy fabric for a quilt for one of my girls.
i'm having a hard time decided what colors to do for which girl,
since i don't know the personality of this next baby yet.

this flannel however, is for baby #3:
pictures don't do it justice. really.
fabulous flannel for a receiving blanket

project # 2 down- beach quilt

remember this quilt that i started a couple months ago?

well, it's finally finished.
and it's totally ghetto!
i used all vintage sheets/pillowcases from the thrift store. loved that part. but since it was just going to be a picnic/beach blanket, i decided to try to quilt it myself. i don't know how people do this! it turned out awful, even more so than this one, that i also quilted myself.
lesson learned.
no more machine quilting for me until i get a pimp daddy machine.

i do love the backing fabric though:
ugh, i can barely look at it...all that puckering!
i'll get over it though, since it's just a play quilt for the outdoors.

i WILL get over it.

project #1 down- kind of

another yellow zig zag on it's way to the quilters

i don't know where this one is going yet, but i had so many scraps left over
that i had to make another one...don't think i'll ever get sick of this design!

including 1,342,672 projects

i've been up to all this:

garden still growing; beets are my new favorite veggie

old dresser revamp that i need to blog about:

another old dresser revamp that i need to DO:

felt flower headbands made with kelly:

another yellow zig zag quilt in the works:

starting a baby boy quilt;
so excited to find the time to assemble this one.

old armoir revamp; brave? i know.

is this pre-nesting? because i like it.

oh, and my cracked iphone took another spill in the washer yesterday!
it was in my robe pocket when paisley threw up all over me.
like any frantic, grossed out mother, i ripped all my clothes and her clothes
off our bodies and threw them into the wash. 5 minutes later, when it dawned on me,
i didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

but my bad fortune has turned good.
i went to replace it at the apple store today and apparantly i qualify for
an upgrade to the new iphone 4!
15 days and counting...

flower pillow

a friend was recently in the hospital and i could think of what
to bring her, until i saw this tutorial at not martha.
i followed the pattern roughly to make a pillow instead:

i used hot glue instead of fabric glue, then just sewed it onto a pillow cover that i made
out of an old blue linen dress. FREE and so fun!
